Download SLIIT Orientation Past papers [2002 to 2010]

SLIIT M.A.S.T.E.R.M.I.N.D Group had uploaded the past papers to a free file sharing website and had published the downloading link on facebook. The capacity of that file was around 11 MB. So I download that, separated the files and uploaded back to mediafire. So that those who are having slow internet connections can download only the required past papers.

Download 2002 to 2007 past papers. (1.71 MB)
Download 2008 past paper. (3.14 MB)
Download 2009 past paper. (940.12 KB)
Download 2010 past paper. (5.42 MB)

My advice for the freshers is that you don't need to do all the past papers to get good results. The papers of last two years would be more than enough.

Good Luck with your exams.

How to Improve my Typing Speed ?

The period of the Orientation Program is the best time to increase your typing speed.

From this post I'll teach you how to increase your typing speed. This is really important because we are stepping into the IT world. When writing programs, you cannot waste time for typing. For example in the 1st semester of your course, you'll have a subject called IPE (Introduction to Programming Environments) and for the final exam of IPE, you'll be having a practical exam. That means you have to type your programs. So if your typing speed is at a low level you'll be wasting so much of time on typing the programs. Then you will not have enough time to write programs for all the questions.

The Solution is 'Typing Master' software. Click here to download it (6.49 MB).

I must tell you something. Some of the SLIIT students do not have a personal computer. This is true because there are students who come from rural areas of the country. If you don't have a computer, don't worry. SLIIT has computer labs and you can use them.

You can install this software in your pen drive. Then you can plug your pen drive to a computer in a lab and run the software. When you are not having lectures, just go to  a lab and practice typing. I have seen many students wasting time with face book when they are in the labs and even during the practicals. I advice you not to do so because you gain nothing from that.

This is a trial version, but don't worry. Start the study program and it will teach you from the very basics. Go on step by step. Then you'll find the study program times out when you go further.

Then you can start the typing test and practice typing. It will really help you to increase your typing speed.

See my typing speed. It's 56 words per minute and the Accuracy is 100% !!!

P.S - When I started doing the SLIIT degree, my typing speed was very slow. All the time I was looking at the keyboard and typing. But after using this software I improved my typing a lot and now I can even type when my eyes are closed.

Subjects in the SLIIT Orientation Programme

Given below is the details of the subjects that you would follow during the Orientation Programme.

Course No
Subject Title
Credits
001
Mathematical Skills
Non Credit
002
Computer Skills
Non Credit
004
Business English and Communication Skills
Non Credit Compulsory

The results of the above subjects will not affect your GPA (Grade Point Average) as they are non credit courses.  But still this course is critical because the medium of instruction is English. I  know that the students of SLIIT come from different backgrounds and every one is not fluent in English. The best thing is the exposure you get. Even if you are fluent in English, you may not be familiar with the technical terms and the mathematical terminology. Participate all the lectures and make the maximum use of it.
